Coconut Lizard, which was set up in 2015 by the former General Manager of Epic Games UK, Robert Troughton, specialises in gameplay, engine and content development. The company is continuing its ambitious growth plans thanks to the high demand for their services.
John Nejady, Producer at Coconut Lizard says, "We're aiming to double our staff numbers over the next year; a plan driven by high demand. We have been able to attract talented people from across the North East so far and aim to be one of the best places to work in the UK, not just the North East."
The company has recently secured larger office accommodation within Gateshead to house their growing numbers and to create a positive & spacious working environment for the team.
When it comes to company culture, John adds, "The company has an open-door policy where all employees are listened to, and their opinions are valued. People don't work on things they don't want to; if somebody isn't enjoying their work, then we look to find them something that they will find enjoyable and fulfilling."
For the last 20 months the company have been working in partnership with Microsoft Games Studios (Rare Ltd) on the hugely popular game, Sea of Thieves. Looking ahead, the company plan to continue working with their high profile client as well as developing their own proprietary tech to license to other game studios.
Rachel Burdis, Tech Specialist at Gateshead Council said: "We're delighted that the company are continuing to grow within the borough and are working on such high profile titles. They're part of a thriving games and tech community based in Gateshead and the North East."
