Global games collective commits to Gateshead
Robot Teddy Ltd, a games consultancy business and collective of freelancers, has set up its headquarters in Gateshead.
The collective consists of skilled and passionate experts working across the globe, from San Francisco, the Philippines to the UK, with its main base now in Northern Design Centre.
Callum Underwood, founder of Robot Teddy said: "It's great for us to now have an office in the North East. We've big growth plans and hope to expand further thanks to new contract wins. Being based in Gateshead makes sense as it has a strong games cluster and we're looking forward to working with Gateshead Council to further support local studios through meet ups and networks like NOVA Games Collective."
Robot Teddy has worked with global games giants Oculus and Kowloon Nights, have advised large investment funds, but they also work with small indie studios. They recently supported their now neighbours, Pocket Money Games to secure the contract to develop Superhot VR for Oculus Quest.
Speaking about setting up the business Callum said, "My background was working for large companies like Intel and Oculus. I decided to set up my own company because I wanted to work with other big names and explore what else was out there. I initially started working with game publishers and over time pivoted from freelancing to running a consultancy based on contract and client success."
Cllr Malcom Brain, Cabinet Member for the Economy at Gateshead Council said: "We're delighted we were able to work with Robot Teddy to find them suitable office space for the company to grow. Their presence further strengthens Gateshead's growing games sector. We believe they'll thrive here amongst our growing digital and gaming scene and it helps that they're right next door to PROTO giving them access to specialist kit for game development."
