Primula owner donates thousands of food products to support people in Gateshead
Kavli UK have pledged to donate around 2000 units per week of their Primula, Castle MacLellan and St Helen's Farm cheese, pate and snack products to Gateshead Council. The donations will go towards emergency food parcels that support people and children in Gateshead during the coronavirus outbreak.
Kavli UK has operated in the North East since the 1930s and their headquarters are in Gateshead's Team Valley.
The Council, in conjunction with Gateshead Foodbank, FareShare and other local partners are making every effort to ensure that local people are supported and have access to food and essentials during the coronavirus outbreak.
Councillor Catherine Donovan, Deputy Leader of Gateshead Council said: "We're so grateful to Kavali Kavli UK for this very generous donation. They are truly making a positive difference to the community where they operate at this particularly difficult time.
"These items on top of our normal dry food and fresh fruit and veg will go a long way to giving an even greater offer for our vulnerable households and families."
"Thank you as well to all the residents and local businesses that have donated items. This collective effort shows how the whole community is pulling together to help people who need it the most."
Paul Lewney, Managing Director of Kavli UK said: "Kavli and Primula are delighted to be able to support this initiative with Gateshead council. Having been located in the North East for over 90 years, we have regularly demonstrated that it is important to share, support and invest in our local communities through The Kavli Trust. At this particularly difficult and challenging time, it is vital we all pull together - everyone can play a part and help each other."
