Gateshead businesses showcased in new campaign thanks to lockdown innovations
Business Gateshead has launched a brand-new campaign to showcase businesses based in the borough who have innovated and adapted during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Government restrictions have been in place for the last seven weeks to help stop the spread of Covid-19, with many businesses, offices and shops having to close, operate online or work from home. This has had a profound impact on the way organisations work.
The campaign aims to celebrate local businesses and show how they have navigated challenges, accessed funding, worked with support organisations and highlight the successes they have had despite difficult circumstances.
Councillor Catherine Donovan, Deputy Leader of Gateshead Council, said: "Coronavirus has put immense pressure on our business community, but in the face of adversity, lots of businesses have adapted successfully and continue to thrive.
"We want to celebrate this and demonstrate that with available advice and support, our business community can diversify, survive and continue to grow after lockdown has ended. Supporting local business is more important than ever."
Examples of Gateshead businesses who have been changing the way they work include Steampunk Spirits who are producing hand sanitiser and Jeffery Carr, a luxury curtain manufacturer on Team Valley, have been making scrubs and gowns for the NHS.
Dash of Lash, an eyelash extension specialist based on Saltwell Road, is continuing to make clients feel their best through lockdown by providing pamper packages and strip lashes available to buy online.
Cloud technology company Synergi is continuing to create jobs to support its new managed IT service, providing security and recovery services; and Watergate Cafe, Raven Valley Gym Club, Sew Unique and Armstrong Event Stewarding & Security are using the 'pay it forward' crowdfunding campaign which allows customers to pay for goods and services in advance.
