Government grant to help businesses invest in sustainable transport
Businesses interested in purchasing eCargo bikes can now access funds made available by the Department of Transport
A pot of £400,000 has been made available by the Department for Transport in 2021/22 to support businesses in the purchase of eCargo bikes. The grant encourages companies to rethink traditional transport methods and explore more sustainable opportunities by covering up to 40% of the total cost of an eCargo bike.
As a cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles, eCargo bikes have zero tailpipe emissions and help to reduce air pollution. They are also an efficient method of transport for last mile deliveries since their smaller frame allows for easier access through congested roads and the option to park closer to a delivery destination.
Councillor John McElroy, cabinet member for the environment and transport, said: "We all need to move towards using more sustainable modes of transport - and using the right vehicle for the right journey.
"There is huge potential in using eCargo bikes to move goods around, and this is a scheme which can help businesses make it affordable."
The application deadline for the eCargo Bike Grant Fund is 14 December 2021. Claims are to be made by 14 February 2022.
