Gateshead's small businesses celebrated

Gateshead has celebrated the incredible talent and resilience of its local business community by announcing the most nominated businesses of the Small Business Celebrations, following more than 300 votes from residents. The celebration event recognised businesses that go above and beyond, champion sustainability, and bring character and quality to the borough.

The most nominated businesses were invited to meet the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Freda Geddes, creating a unique opportunity to share their stories, discuss why they love working in Gateshead, and reflect on the challenges they've overcome to succeed.

The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Freda Geddes said: "Small businesses are the heartbeat of our local economy. Today we've celebrated not just their success, but their creativity, resilience, and commitment to our communities. Gateshead is proud to support these businesses and the people behind them."

The celebrations were shaped by the residents of Gateshead, with over 300 nominations cast by residents who wanted to recognise the businesses that make a real impact. From family-run cafés to eco-conscious salons, the nominees reflect the passion and creativity that local people value most.

Councillor Leigh Kirton, Cabinet Member for Economy and Communications added: "It's fantastic to see so many residents getting involved and voting for their favourite businesses. It shows how much our community values the people who go above and beyond to make Gateshead a great place to live and work."

Small Business Saturday takes place on 6 December, encouraging residents to keep supporting independent traders by shopping locally. Every purchase helps sustain the creativity, character and community spirit that make high streets special - whether it's picking up gifts from a local maker, enjoying a meal at a family-run café or choosing services from businesses that go the extra mile, each purchase made from a small business in Gateshead is a huge boost to the local economy.
