iPac combines growth, innovation and sustainability in Gateshead

In less than a decade, the company has set up and significantly expanded its operations through continuous investment in its site, technology, and workforce, alongside a strong focus on sustainability. iPac produces 100% recyclable plastic packaging for major retailers including Tesco, M&S, Aldi, and Sainsbury's, using up to 100% recycled materials. 

To support this growth, Business Gateshead introduced iPac to the Made Smarter programme, which led to the implementation of a new Warehouse Management System (WMS) which has been critical in underpinning the company's rapid growth, improving efficiency and supporting high-volume production. The business has also successfully secured Growth Fund support, enabling site expansion and the installation of a new production line. 

iPac currently employs approximately 100 people, produces approximately half a billion units per year and had a turnover of £24.7m in 2025, with significant further investment and expansion planned over the coming 24 months. The company has recently won Insider Media's 'Made in the UK' - North East Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m). 

Further support from Business Gateshead has connected iPac to Gateshead's District Energy Network, providing access to cheaper and greener energy. This partnership represents a strong mutual benefit: iPac gains access to more cost-effective, low-carbon energy more quickly and easily than through conventional providers, while Gateshead Energy Company (GEC) continues to expand its network to support more local businesses.
